USAID and policymakers around the world who have designed and implemented auctions share valuable insights, global trends, and lessons learned.
USAID Support
While more than a billion people have gained access to electricity since 2010, and prices for clean energy technology have fallen dramatically in recent years, nearly 760 million people worldwide still lacked access as of 2019, and many more suffer from poor service quality, including frequent and long power outages. Today, many developing countries are creating policy, legal, and regulatory frameworks to attract private investment in clean energy, increase energy efficiency, and expand electricity access. USAID works in partner countries across all aspects of the energy sector to support their journey to self-reliance. USAID is at the forefront of auction design and implementation, helping developing countries strengthen their energy sector through increased transparency and greater private sector participation.
