Dar es Salaam – On Saturday, March 26, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director V. Kate Somvongsiri and the Minister of Education Professor Adolf Mkenda attended a ribbon cutting ceremony for a new girls’ dormitory. Construction of the new $772,000 (1.8 billion tz shillings) Loyola High School dormitory was funded by the USAID American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (ASHA) program and will accommodate 400 girls.

Gender inequities persist in Tanzania, despite the ongoing efforts of the Government of Tanzania and its partners. Primary school enrollment for boys and girls is almost equivalent, but secondary school completion rates show girls falling behind. Early marriages and pregnancies - and undervaluing of girls’ achievements - hamper retention. Among Tanzanian youth aged 20-24, fewer than one-fifth of girls and one-third of boys have completed secondary school.

In 2020, 470,000 structures were treated with indoor-residual spray. As a result, 2.5 million people were better protected from malaria.

USAID’s Global Health Supply Chain activity recently procured respiratory and sanitation supplies valued at $400,000. The supplies were delivered over the past month to the Port of Zanzibar and onward to public medical facilities through the central medical store. The shipment includes respiratory equipment such as pulse oximeters, pediatric and adult nasal cannulas, masks; and sanitation supplies such as backpack sprayers, and biohazard disposal bags.

These funds will ultimately help maintain critical food assistance to refugees here in Tanzania. The contribution comprises $6 million in cash for commodity procurements in the local market, and $2 million of in-kind assistance in the form of yellow split peas.

Today, at the Tanzania Port Authority, the United States Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), contributed $8 million to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in order to maintain critical food assistance for refugees living in Nduta, Mtendeli and Nyarugusu camps in north-western Tanzania.

USAID Kizazi Kipya will use its existing networks to provide iCHF/iTIKA cards to nearly 93,000 vulnerable households with a total reach of over 360,000 people.

Dodoma: Today, Minister of State for the President’s Office - Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG), the Honorable Suleiman Jafo, launched a new initiative to distribute improved Community Health Fund (iCHF)/improved Tiba kwa Kadi (iTIKA) cards to vulnerable households. To reach these households, PO-RALG has partnered with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and The President's Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), through their Kizazi Kipya (“New Generation”) project, which supports orphans and vulnerable children.

On Tuesday, January 19, the United States Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), in partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Natio­ns (FAO) handed-over weather monitoring tools to the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA). Supplies include pH meters, standard rain gauges, measuring cylinders and bottles, a desktop computer, and the development of a new database server.

Dodoma, Tanzania - July 17th, 2018 - The United States Government handed over a Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle to the Government of Tanzania at Mkapa House car park in Dodoma on July 17, 2018, through the Community Health and Social Welfare System Strengthening Program (CHSSP) to improve access to remote areas and enhance monitoring of community-based HIV/AIDs, and orphans and vulnerable children programs.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and The Coca Cola Foundation (TCCF), through their Water and Development Alliance (WADA) global partnership, commemorated the launch of activities that will transform the lives of more than 70,000 rural Tanzanians. The Coca-Cola Foundation and USAID are supporting project activities with a combined investment of more than $1 million, primarily focused on an innovative water access project.
