Administrator Samantha Power Meets with Ambassadors to the U.S. from Hungary, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Ukraine

Today, Administrator Samantha Power, along with State Department Bureau for Population, Refugees, and Migration Senior Bureau Official Nancy Jackson, met with Hungarian Ambassador Szabolcs Takács, Moldovan Ambassador Eugen Caras, Polish Ambassador Marek Magierowski, Romanian Charge d’Affaires ad interim Cristian Gaginsky, Slovak Ambassador Radovan Javorčík, and Ukrainian Ambassador Oksana Markarova to continue discussions and coordination on the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine and in the broader region. 

The Administrator convened this group of Ambassadors from countries on the frontlines of the crisis to discuss our continued partnership, and ways in which the United States can help in support of the ever-growing number of refugees fleeing Russian aggression in Ukraine. Administrator Power and Ukrainian Ambassador Markarova thanked the Ambassadors for their countries’ generosity and support for the vast numbers of refugees crossing into their countries as they flee Putin’s unprovoked violence as well as their work to move humanitarian assistance into Ukraine. Ukrainian Ambassador Markarova presented Ukraine’s most pressing humanitarian needs while the other Ambassadors briefed on their countries’ ongoing humanitarian efforts and assistance. The Administrator also outlined how the United States has scaled up its response effort to help meet the growing humanitarian needs caused by Russia’s war. Administrator Power reaffirmed ongoing support from the U.S. government for the people and government of Ukraine.
