Today, Deputy Administrator Isobel Coleman met with Mr. David Gressly, the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, to discuss the impacts of the ongoing truce on the humanitarian situation and the importance of continued attention and donor support to Yemen at this crucial moment.
Deputy Administrator Coleman emphasized the importance of using this window to improve and maintain humanitarian access to people in need. She noted that while the truce is enabling USAID partners to conduct assessments and provide assistance to some areas previously inaccessible due to conflict, humanitarian actors must be able to operate independently and without interference. They also discussed that long-term development and economic assistance is indispensable to addressing the underlying drivers of the crisis, and building upon the current truce to find a durable, peaceful solution to the conflict.
