Today, Deputy Administrator Isobel Coleman met with Syrian opposition leaders, Anas Abda, the president of the Syrian Negotiations Commission (SNC) and Hadi al-Bahra, co-chair of the Constitutional Committee to discuss the U.S. Agency for International Development’s stabilization and humanitarian work in Syria.
Deputy Administrator Coleman expressed USAID’s commitment to supporting the U.S. government’s overall efforts to decrease violence and increase aid throughout Syria. The Deputy Administrator, SNC President, and Constitutional Committee Co-Chair discussed the need for economic growth assistance and private sector engagement to address Syria’s deteriorating economy, and how USAID will continue to support the Syrian people.
In addition to USAID’s work to restore essential services and support livelihoods for Syrians in non-regime-held areas of Syria, the United States also provides humanitarian assistance for Syrians both inside the country and refugees throughout the region. The U.S. government remains committed to supporting the Syrian people as they seek a peaceful solution to this brutal conflict.
