On April 5-7, Administrator Power will travel to the Slovak Republic and Moldova to see firsthand the impact the Russian Federation’s brutal war in Ukraine is having on civilians forced to flee, and to reaffirm the United States’ commitment to support nations on the frontlines of the humanitarian response.

In the Slovak Republic on April 5, Power will participate in high-level meetings with government officials, as well as with civil society and humanitarian organizations that are providing care and needed services to refugees, to discuss how the United States can provide ongoing assistance. The Administrator will hold a roundtable with partners and journalists to discuss the serious challenges around disinformation and exchange best practices to counter the dissemination of false and destabilizing narratives, and the crucial importance of press freedom and civic engagement.

In Moldova on April 6-7, Administrator Power will meet with President Maia Sandu to discuss how the international community can support Moldova and other frontline nations who are generously welcoming Ukrainian refugees. She will also travel to the Moldova-Ukraine border for a briefing with humanitarian organizations, and meet with Moldovan citizens and municipal leaders who have mobilized their communities to assist refugees in need. The Administrator will hold a roundtable with journalists reporting on the war, as well as visit several local businesses to discuss the economic consequences of Putin’s war in key sectors of Moldova’s economy.
