The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) sponsored the participation of ten Kyrgyz agricultural enterprises at the UzFood-2022 exhibition in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. During the international food expo, Kyrgyz companies met with Uzbek retail chains, food and beverage suppliers. The Kyrgyz firms signed 20 agreements and contracts to export fruits, meat, and dairy products. The largest agreements covered exports of 1,700 MT of apples and 100 MT of walnuts and pistachios.

The delegation from Kyrgyzstan included Bay-Dyikan, Ishker KG, and Kelechek Cooperatives, as well as Obid Faiz LLC, Ala-Buka Kyrgyz Et LLC, Abil Logistics Center, private entrepreneurs Yakubjon Alimjanov, Suranov Almazbek, Duulatov, Suranov Almazbek, and Hadiya. They presented agricultural products from Osh and Jalal-Abad regions: apples, prunes, pistachios, walnuts and walnut oil, as well as meat and dairy products, juices, and other beverages.

“Attending such international exhibitions contributes to the development of our business. It’s a good opportunity for local entrepreneurs to meet with counterparts from Uzbekistan, exchange business ideas, learn about advanced business trends for the development of the agricultural sector, food production, technology, and innovation" said Erbaeva Saltanat, Deputy Director of PE Duulatov, a dried fruit processor.

UzFood is one of the largest international food exhibitions in Central Asia. Last year, more than 4,000 representatives of leading food companies, importers, and distributors attended the exhibition.

“Accessing new markets is key to expanding businesses and creating jobs in Kyrgyzstan. It’s the best way that they can grow, hire more people and increase incomes for Kyrgyzstanis. That’s why USAID continues to work with entrepreneurs to help them strengthen business linkages with neighboring countries like Uzbekistan,” said Andrew Maybrook, USAID/Kyrgyz Republic Acting Mission Director.

The trip was organized under USAID’s Agro Trade project which works to create jobs and increase the incomes of Kyrgyz farmers and agribusinesses by strengthening value chains, leading to increased regional and cross-border trade with Uzbekistan.
